Land of the White Miracles and High Mountain Peaks on a Tour of Denizli

Situated in the high mountains close to  Büyük Menderes (Meander) River is Denizli, a city that is surrounded by a beautiful valley in an area full of history and culture.  The first inhabitants were the Luvians, followed by the Hittites centuries later. Throughout time the fertile plain nourished other civilisations, too including the Phrygians, Lydians, Macedonians, Persians, Byzantines, Romans, Seljuks and the Ottomans. Modern Denizli is a city with wide streets with parks and hotels, and on Denizli tours see the Atatürk Ethnography Museum at the city centre displays folk art and ethnic artefacts. You can visit the nearby Çamlık, İncilipınar or Gökpınar Parks for a picnic, or simply a walk through the forest in the shade of pine trees and the fresh-water springs attract many visitors to thermal baths of Pamukkale.  Read More...

Land of the White Miracles and High Mountain Peaks on a Tour of Denizli

Pamukkale is a wonderful expression by Mother Nature and is the only example of its kind in the world and can be seen in almost every list of places to see before you die and visited by nearly two million tourists each year on a Pamukkale tour from Denizli. It is a place where nature took on the role of an artist and created such astounding beauty. The ancient city of Hierapolis located nearby served as a thermal health centre, and many visitors from various parts of Anatolia came to the city to receive a balneal treatment in search of good health or beauty. Even in the present day visitors still flock here seeking beauty or health and to take a dip in the thermal pools.

Another thermal centre northwest of Pamukkale is Karahayıt, which makes a name for itself because of the high iron content of its waters. Honaz Dağı National Park another attraction to see on a private tour of Denizli is located 20km to the east of Denizli, close to the town of Honaz. Mt Honaz is one of the most beautiful and highest peaks (2528m) of the Aegean region and is covered with beautiful alpine forest. The remains of ancient Colossae, a site of early Christian activity, are still visible from the northern slope. Among nearby ancient sights, you will also find the ruins of the Seleucid city of Laodiceia found 6km north of Denizli, built for Antiochus II, and one of the Seven Churches in the book of Revelations. The ancient silk road which still has a rich heritage of history and culture was a trade route connecting Central Asia to Europe, and it also has the imprint of the cultures, races and religions living in the region for 2000 years. There are 11 caravanserais on the ancient silk route, two of which are in Denizli. The Akhan and Çardakhan Caravanserai are listed in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Tentative List.

The province’s biggest secret is its exquisite painted mosques which can be seen on daily sightseeing tours from Denizli where sadly only a few have survived. Until they were published in a book in Turkey in 2012, they were virtually unknown to the art historians. Plain looking from the outside but once inside see their colourful prayer halls, galleries, mihrabs and minibars that are carved and beautifully painted with geometric patterns, flowers and trees. Many of the mosques were decorated in the 18th and 19th centuries, and are reminiscent of the Anatolian medieval wooden mosques. All of the mosques can found within a 50km radius of Denizli, notably at Akköy, Belenardiç, Boğaziçi, Kızılcabölük, Kocaköy and Yazır Köyü.

While on a full day tour to Denizli take the aerial cable lift constructed by the Metropolitan City of Denizli and is 1500 metres long with 24 cabins that hold eight people in each and reaches up to the beautiful nature of the Bağbaşı Olive Plateau 1400 metres above the sea level. On the upper station of the lift, there is a cafeteria, and at a 1700m distance at the plateau, there is a restaurant, a café, picnic spaces, tent areas for those who would like to stay, and wooden bungalows and rooms.
