Explore the Ancient Ruins & Stunning Coastline on Side Tours

Side is a family resort on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, and just a few kilometres from Manavgat, famous for its waterfalls which can be seen on Side tours. This nearby River is lush, green and very fertile. Highlights of Side (meaning pomegranate in Ancient Anatolian and pronounced “sea-day”) include the charming seafront and harbour, long sweeping beaches and Greek and Roman ruins, around which modern-day Side has been built. In the last few years and because of a forward-thinking mayor, the resort has benefited from some significant upgrades which include a new promenade that has dramatically improved the appeal of the beach areas and has shortened walking times between the villages along the coast.

Wander through Side, which sits on a 1,000 by 400-metre peninsula, and it becomes apparent why the resort of Side is one of Turkey’s most famous classical sites that is often compared to an open-air museum which can be seen on sightseeing tours in Side. Valued for its great coastal position as a trading place for more than two millennia, the resort was inhabited by the Ancient Greeks when Alexander the Great arrived there in 333BC. It was then occupied by pirates, who traded in slaves and then fell under Roman rule around 50BC. This is why ancient ruins are in abundance including a Roman amphitheatre – where the gladiators once fought but are now used for performances.

Side has two main beaches on either side of the peninsula. One to the west and the other to the east, as well as a lovely sandy cove in the centre of the resort. You will find the best opportunities to take part in water sports, boat rentals and tours, diving and para-sailing on the west beach. More adventurous people could take some excursions in Side like trekking or mountain-biking in the Taurus mountains, rafting down the River Manavgat located in the stunning Koprulu Canyon National Park and also home to the ancient city of Selge. You could even go horse-riding in the nearby lush green Sorgun Forest. It’s even possible to ski in the mountain resorts of Davraz and Saklikent on Side tours. It is said you can go skiing in the morning and be basking in the sun on the beach in the afternoon.
